Natural support for wool on hoof

A company with an innovative approach to supporting sheep farmers is to sponsor the NSA Welsh Sheep Event’s Wool on the Hoof competition.

Natural Legacy by Hainsworth specialises in producing woollen coffins and caskets as an environmentally friendly alternative. The range was launched by Hainsworth, a Yorkshire based woollen textile mill, two years ago and uses a combination of Pure New British Wool, recycled cardboard and organic cotton.

The company is delighted to be associated with NSA Welsh Sheep 2011 which is to be held at Maesllwyni Farm, Penegoes, Machynlleth, on May 18 2011. The venue is a 440 hectare organic holding run as two separate units by brothers John and Dafydd Parry Jones and their families, commanding spectacular views from the rolling hills of the Dyfi Valley north to Cader Idris and the Arran Fawddwy and south to the Cambrian Mountains.

Natural Legacy is proud of its role in providing greener goodbyes. It is also an important part of the Wool Project, promoting wool’s uniquely sustainable features and safeguarding the livelihood of the dwindling number of sheep farmers.

Rachel Hainsworth, Director, comments: “These coffins are unique and offer a real alternative to families. They have been independently tested to carry up to 60 stone, are light and strong and ensure low emission levels when used in cremation.

“Hainsworth has integrated the traditional qualities of craftmanship with cutting edge innovation and product development to create these ‘green’ woollen coffins which are fully biodegradable, sustainable and renewable.

“We are committed to using British wool to support British farmers, and each coffin uses three special fine-down type fleeces from UK soil. All the coffins and accessories are hand-made in Yorkshire to the highest quality standards. Hainsworth uses a combination of pure new wool and organic cotton which gives an overall feeling of comfort and reassurance to the families.”

Each of the sheep displayed on the Breed Society Stands will be eligible for the Wool on the Hoof competition. Winners will receive a crystal trophy.
